A Standing Ovation for the NHS

New Theatre Royal Lincoln Produces Show to Raise Funds for NHS

The New Theatre Royal Lincoln (NTR) are proud to present The Variety Show – The Big Thank You, which will take to the stage for one night only on Sunday 29th May. The show not only features a whole host of stars and local talent, but will also raise money for the NHS.

The theatre had originally planned to produce a Variety Show in 2020 but it was postponed when theatres were unable to open their doors during the pandemic. The theatre then decided that they wanted to do something to thank the NHS for everything that they do when they presented the show in 2021, which was once again rescheduled to 2022, with theatres still not able to open. The theatre therefore decided that proceeds from the show would go to a local NHS Charity, specifically the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity (ULHC).

Talking about why the theatre wanted to support the NHS, Artistic Director Natalie Hayes-Cowley said, “I think everyone has been touched by the incredible work of the NHS, particularly over the last couple of years. As the country went into the first lockdown, NHS staff had no choice but to continue working to keep us all safe. It was heartbreaking to see the staff working all hours of the day in such tough conditions during these unprecedented times. The images and interviews we saw on TV really hit us hard. And when the theatre family finally got back to the theatre, we agreed that we had to do something to say thank you to the NHS.”

Founded in 1996, ULHC supports over 750,000 people each year across four sites. They help NHS staff to deliver outstanding care to patients, their families, and carers, whilst funding extras which the NHS can’t provide alone, such as developing extra treatments and building state-of-the-art facilities.

Speaking ahead of the show, Ben Petts (Charity Manager at ULHC) said, “As people are getting back to some kind of normality the staff within the Hospital are still working with Covid patients daily. The effects of the past couple of years will stay with many of us for years to come. We’re truly thankful for the New Theatre Royal to recognise the dedication of the local NHS staff and put on this Variety Show to raise funds which we will use to support the patients and staff across the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.”

The production will star numerous acts including Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Royle, Specialty Act Isabella Bliss, and Aerialists iOi Duo who starred in the theatre’s 2018 Christmas Pantomime, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. The theatre will also welcome female music group Nova, featuring Zoe Hedge (NTR’s Beauty & the Beast, Robin Hood, Strictly Cabaret X) and Lucy Kane (Strictly Cabaret X).

Local talent taking to the stage includes performances from Lincoln’s own County Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (CAODS) and Grantham-based Chantry Dance Company. The show will also feature a performance from Sophia Halward who was the winner of “Lockdown Lincolnshire’s Got Talent”, an online competition the theatre ran during the pandemic. Tickets are still available, and by coming along audiences will not only be treated to an evening of unforgettable entertainment but will also be supporting the NHS.
