All Star Vulcans Cheerleaders Help Struggling Families Have a Merry Christmas

A local cheerleading group, based in Birchwood and South Hykeham, spent the end of last year collecting as many donations as possible to provide presents and create a magical Christmas for families in need.

“Our Allstar Vulcans cheer classes are all about Pom Dance, making friends, building confidence & learning new skills but most importantly they are about having fun!” explains owner Becky Whittington, “We are not a competitive team, but we work towards different cheer goals and the children regularly earn rewards for their achievements.”

This is the second year running that All Star Vulcans Cheerleaders have took part in the Lincoln Christmas Sack Project – a project that works with schools, family and children’s centres, churches and other organisations across the city to ensure families who, whether it’s due to sickness or financial hardship, are struggling to provide for themselves and their children at Christmas time. With partners such as Lincoln College and Lincolnshire Coop Travel, the project has been growing in recent years and has made a huge impact locally.

Becky commented, “After such a terrible couple of years with the pandemic I wanted to look for some way that we could give back to the community and came across the Lincoln Christmas Sack Project- a local church-based charity that works to make Christmas as special as possible by helping out Lincolnshire families who are most in need. I decided to collect toy donations for children between 0-12 yrs old- a similar age to our cheer team members. Every child deserves to have a magical Christmas no matter their circumstances.

“We received donations from our cheer parents and received a large donation from local toy retailer – Kidscave Lincoln. They are so generous and have donated through us both this year and last. Several people from the community also donated after seeing our post on Facebook.

“I’m absolutely blown away by the generosity of our cheer parents and their families! We collected over 100 Toys in total and needed a sleigh to transport them all to the project!

“I’d like to thank everyone for their enormous generosity- we hope to have made this Christmas a little easier for these families and look forward to doing it all over again next year!”
