Earth Day 2024

Planet vs Plastics

For Earth Day 2024, on April 22nd, the focus is on the unwavering commitment to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040.

The first Earth Day in 1970 gathered millions of Americans from all walks of life to birth the modern environmental movement. Since then, Earth Day has evolved into the largest civic event across the entire planet, activating billions across 192 countries to safeguard our planet and fight for a brighter future.

As a result of Earth Day, 100s of millions of trees have been planted, 7 billion Green School Grants have been given, there have been 36 million clean-up volunteers get involved, and 2.7 billion recorded ‘Acts of Green’.

This year, Earth Day are commemorating the 5-year anniversary of The Great Global Cleanup, collaborating with partners worldwide to eliminate plastics permanently through hands-on cleanup efforts and advocacy for a 60% reduction in plastics production by 2040.

To highlight this milestone, they are calling upon individuals, businesses, governments, and non-profit organisations to unite for a monumental environmental challenge: collectively registering 5,000 cleanups on The Great Global Cleanup Map by April 22nd to amplify Earth Day’s impact and leave a lasting, positive legacy on our planet.
