Fiskerton’s New Monthly Village Market

Inspired by the rise in popularity of local farmers markets, from the 16th December there will be a brand new market day at Fiskerton Village Hall every third Saturday of the month showcasing fresh local produce, handmade items and delicious treats.

“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while” explains Fiskerton Parish Council Chair, Adrian Walker. “Since losing the village shop, people have always said they’d love to have one back. We can’t do that, but the village hall committee have organised a monthly farmers market, which seem to be quite popular at the moment, which will address the desire to shop local.”

Fresh produce on offer will include bread, cheese, fruit, vegetables, cake, biscuits, along with stalls from a local butcher and fish monger. As well as these, there will be local businesses selling jams and chutneys, beeswax products, Christmas decorations, gifts, jewellery, wood crafts, dog treats and more!

Not only are the benefits of local markets supporting local people, local businesses and providing access to local produce and handmade items, but perhaps the most important way the markets serve the community is as a gathering place for people of all ages. With sweet treats on offer, food vendors selling hot dogs, pulled pork and dirty fries, and a place to purchase handmade gifts and one-of-a-kind items, there will be something for everyone.

A successful market encourages visitors to not only shop local, but also socialise and meet with other residents. Because of this, markets are at the heart of communities and the organisers hope Fiskerton’s new monthly market will be at the heart of theirs and continue for many months to come.

If you would like to find out more or you’re interested in having a stall, you can visit the Fiskerton Village Hall Facebook page, or call 07495 535 782. The first market will take place at Fiskerton Village Hall on the 16th December from 10am-1pm.
