Shakespeare, Comedy, Jive and Barbershop Collide at The Blue Room

Shakespeare’s classic Much Ado About Nothing brings it’s “Merry War” to the stage.

The Asylum Players kick off their 2023 season with a rip-roaring comedy at The Blue Room.

After their critically successful run of Wuthering Heights, it’s time to lighten the mood with the beloved, farcical, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of March come and see this hilarious re-imagining of Shakespeare’s classic. With a barbershop choir, a stunning, jive dancing cast and plenty of slapstick comedy, this is one for all the family.

Steve Gillard, Artistic Director said: “This was the show we were all set to bring to the stage before covid struck. We were one week away from curtain up. To be able to come back to this wonderfully funny, gentle, fantastically accessible piece and FINALLY give to an audience really feels like a real win for us all.”

Written by William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy that has crossed the generations since it was first performed. Warm, caring and with a cast of memorable characters, including some completely inept, bumbling police officers, you don’t need to love Shakespeare to love this piece.

Benedick loves Beatrice. Beatrice loves Benedick. The only problem is that neither of them know it yet. Fortunately they have a caring group of friends and family who are all too willing to “help” them to this realisation. Well meaning bikers, clumsy waitresses, the worst police officer money can buy and a wealth of misunderstandings couldn’t possibly derail this scheme…could it?
