The Music Tutor Helping BBC Radio Lincolnshire Celebrate Local Heroes

Scott Hardacre, a music tutor from Woodhall Spa with over 16 years’ experience, was approached by BBC Radio Lincolnshire to teach one of their morning presenters the cornet so they can play a fanfare to celebrate a member of the public who had done particularly good work for their community.

The purpose of the fanfare is to celebrate when someone in Lincolnshire has gone above and beyond and is making a real difference to their local area. It is a way of celebrating their success whilst saying thank you for their hard work.

The first lesson Scott had with complete novice presenter Harry Parkhill was recorded and broadcast on Sean Dunderdale’s Breakfast Show.

The following week, Scott performed the first ever fanfare live with Harry, which saw the introduction of the ongoing feature titled the ‘Friday Fanfare’.

The first person to receive the surprise Friday Fanfare live on the show was a student called Jimmy from Lacey Gardens Junior Academy in Louth. Jimmy has managed to raise an incredible amount of money for various charities over the last year through efforts such as completing a 5k in aid of the school food bank, as well as selling craft items to make Christmas hampers for those in need.

Presenter Harry hid ready to surprise Jimmy live on air at his school gates to say a huge thank you and well done for all his selfless hard work. Scott joined him to ensure the first ever Friday Fanfare was as celebratory as possible and commented on air, “What a worthy recipient, well done! It is a shock first thing in the morning to have a brass instrument played at you, but well deserving and what a celebration!”

Scott later commented, “It has been a pleasure to teach Harry and to celebrate people’s successes. We will be doing more…to be decided later!”
