YMCA Lincolnshire ‘Sleep Easy’ Returns for 12th Year

How would you like to spend a night sleeping in the shadow of the majestic Lincoln Cathedral, whilst supporting a great cause?

Sleep Easy 2022 is a chance to raise awareness of homelessness and mental health in Lincolnshire whilst fundraising for services offered at the Nomad Centre.

YMCA Lincolnshire invites you to take part in their annual sleep out at Lincoln Cathedral where sponsored sleepers spend a night replicating what it feels like to spend a night on the street.

2022’s Sleep Easy will run from 7pm on Friday 18th March until 7am on Saturday 19th March.

Since its beginnings 2010, across the UK more than 7,000 people have slept rough for a night to raise awareness of homelessness and help raise over £1.5 million in vital funds to support local YMCA services that assist in rebuilding lives.

The event had to be missed in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the 2020 event welcomed over 100 participants raising over £20,000 to support YMCA Lincolnshire’s work with supported housing and mental health across the country.

Many local businesses and organisations regularly join the event, with University of Lincoln journalism students reporting from and photographing the event and local schools sleeping out in their school halls.

“Sleep Easy 2022 is an important date in the YMCA Lincolnshire Nomad calendar,” YMCA Lincolnshire Chief Executive, Caroline Killeavy said.

“The funds and awareness raised help to provide essential services throughout the year to those experiencing homelessness.

“Many of us struggle to find tangible ways to help those in need. This event is a good way to more fully understand the challenges of other people’s lives; the funds raised by participants will help fund our mental health support to those in need.”
